Prayer wheels are the accumulation of 1000's of prayers. When spun it is like saying 1000's of prayers as they go out into the universe to bring good karma, good luck and prosperity.
 
The prayer wheel must be spun clockwise, like the direction of the sun as it moves across the sky and the direction in which mantras are written.
 
Prayer wheels are also used to heighten and enhance spiritual powers. By turning the prayer wheel and repeating mantras, enlightenment is achieved as one enters a meditative state. 
 
It is said that by simply touching a prayer wheel negative karmas are purified.
